GRAY-NICOLLS Boys Show Ton's of Class

Mon 1 November 2010

Shaun Marsh struck his sixth first-class century for the Retravision Warriors but his team faces a challenging final day in the Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield match against the West End Redbacks in Adelaide.

Marsh played a lone hand in the WA innings, scoring a brilliant 137. Michael Swart (51) and Adam Voges (35) were the only other batsmen to notch up more than 20 on a tough day with the willow for the Warriors.

Callum Ferguson crafted a swift century as South Australia finished the second day at 7 for 405 against Western Australia. After only 4.1 overs were allowed on the first day, Ferguson showed he was back in excellent nick in his opening first-class game since knee surgery last year to finish with 129.

Aiden Blizzard also played a significant part as he brought up his debut hundred in his second Sheffield Shield match for South Australia. After making 96 in his first game, he backed up with 108 not out, hitting 12 fours and three sixes. In a stellar performance Blizzard finished on 141 not out.

WILLAMSON the Youngest to Hit Deubt Ton

Wed 10 November 2010

Kane Williamson put himself in the record books by scoring a test cricket century on debut for New Zealand against India in their recent first test.

At just 20 years old, Kane became the first New Zealander to achieve the feat.

Williamson shared a New Zealand fifth wicket record partnership of 194 with GRAY-NICOLLS sponsored player Jesse Ryder, who also managed to compile a masterful 103.

Williamson portrayed no signs of nerves as he quickly moved into and through the 90's.

He hooked a short ball from Zaheer to fine leg to move to 97 and, despite a leg slip being put in place, two balls later he flicked the bowler off his hip in the same direction to reach the milestone.

Williamson's century occupied 309 minutes and 244 balls. He went on to hit 131 off 299 balls and was dismissed just before lunch on day four.

Ryder Dines Out on Indian Bowling

Wed 10 November 2010

Jesse Ryder announced his return to the test cricket arena after a 15 month injury enforced absence with this third century in just his 12th test against India in the first test.

Ryder raised three figures in the last over of the day by dispatching Shantakumaran Sreesanth to the cover boundary before being trapped leg before wicket two balls later.

Ryder has restructured his team's cause, with the help of debutant and fellow GRAY-NICOLLS sponsored player Kane Williamson, to establish a New Zealand record fifth wicket stand against India of 194 runs.

Ryder and Williamson joined forces shortly before lunch after the loss of two quick wickets with the tourists at a shaky 137 for four chasing India's first innings of 487.

They then defied the Indians for 281 minutes to guide their team to a fighting 331 for five.

Opening batsman Brendon McCullum, who earlier made 65, said it was a pleasure to sit in the team dressing room and watch on as Ryder and Williamson took it to the world no. 1 Indians for the rest of the day.

"It was brilliant. I was obviously disappointed to get out but I sat back in awe how two guys in contrasting situations in their careers responded." McCullum said.

"They are both guys who genuinely love batting and genuinely love scoring runs."

Ryder has now passed 1,000 runs at test level at an average of 52.68.
