CRICKETERS IN SUPPORT FOR OCTOBER BREAST CANCER MONTH
MEDIA RELEASE
5 Oct. 09
Boxing Day, December 2006: Matthew Hayden salutes a packed MCG crowd upon reaching his century against England with a fluorescent pink bat handle. This act kick-started an unprecedented following and support for breast cancer awareness from cricketers nation-wide.
With October internationally recognised as Breast Cancer Month and nearly three years on, GRAY-NICOLLS is pleased to announce that all of its sponsored Australian international and state-representative cricketers will don the pink grip once again for this month only, including tonight's Champions Trophy Final between Australia and New Zealand.
October also includes the prestigious Champions League Twenty20 tournament from India and the start to the Australian domestic cricket season.
This initiative will see over 45 cricketers support the cause, including the following high profile cricketers -
Callum Ferguson
Cameron White
David Hussey
Nathan Hauritz
David Warner
Moises Henriques
Andrew McDonald
Andrew Symonds
Over 100,000 GRAY-NICOLLS pink grips have been sold throughout Australia and New Zealand since December 2006. GRAY-NICOLLS is continuing its commitment to donate $1 per pink grip sold to the National Breast Cancer Foundation and New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.
This support is inconsequential compared to the horrifying statistics that this disease causes Australian families. Each year in Australia more than 13,600 women and 105 men are diagnosed with breast cancer; more than 2,800 will die from it.
Ends.

Three GRAY-NICOLLS cricket athletes are in the running for the world's top cricketing honours of 2009.
GRAY-NICOLLS batting star Jesse Ryder has been short-listed for the Emerging Player of the Year at the prestigious LG ICC Awards. Ryder made his Test debut less than a year ago but already has two centuries, four 50s and a Test average of 49.88.

Ashes-winning captain and GRAY-NICOLLS superstar, Andrew Strauss has been nominated for both the Cricketer of the Year Award and Test Player of the Year Award.
After assuming the England captaincy in January, Strauss has enjoyed a wonderful run of form with the bat - scoring four centuries - and was awarded Man of the Series against Australia during in Ashes. He also scored back-to-back centuries against India in Chennai last November, and has re-established himself as one of England's leading one-day players.
Prevailing GRAY-NICOLLS batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul, the 2008 ICC Cricketer of the Year was nominated for the One Day International (ODI) Player of the Year.

Both athletes are said to have been selected based on the important role they played in Australia's Test series victory in South Africa last month.
The five-Test series starts with the first Test in Cardiff from July 8 and finishes with the fifth Test at The Oval in late August.
Australia's Ashes squad: R. Ponting (c), M. Clarke (vc), S. Clark, B. Haddin, N. Hauritz, B. Hilfenhaus, P. Hughes, M. Hussey, M. Johnson, S. Katich, B. Lee, A. McDonald, M. North, P. Siddle, G. Manou, S. Watson.

Furthermore, The Australian Twenty20 World Cup squad will depart for the England on Wednesday, which includes GRAY-NICOLLS athletes Andrew Symonds, David Warner and David Hussey.
Fri 8 May 2009
Explosive GRAY-NICOLLS batsman David Warner and all-rounder's David Hussey and Andrew Symonds have been named in the Twenty20 World Cup team to compete in England this June.
According to cricketing experts, the return of Andrew Symonds has boosted the Australian teams experience and enthusiasm particularly in a squad that included several players relatively new to international cricket. It is well-known that Andrew Symonds is one of the best T20 players in the world and recently proved to selectors in the UAE that he still has the ability to win matches for Australia.
Twenty20 sensation David Warner (NSW) has also been selected for his consistent performances in the shortest version of the game. Warner is currently playing for Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in South Africa.
All-rounder David Hussey admits he is excited and relieved to have been named in Australia's Twenty20 World Cup squad. According to Chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch, David Hussey is an important part of the team and earned his sport after displaying sharp fielding in the first international T20 against South Africa recently.
Squad: Ricky Ponting (captain), Michael Clarke (vice-captain), Nathan Bracken, Brad Haddin, Nathan Hauritz, Ben Hilfenhaus, James Hopes, David Hussey, Mike Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Peter Siddle, Andrew Symonds, David Warner and Shane Watson.
Mon 6 April 2009
Andrew Symonds' exile from the national team is over after he was named as part of the preliminary squad for the World Twenty20 in England in June. “I’m grateful that I’ve got the chance to get back to playing for Australia again,” Symonds said.
Cricket Australia told the selectors Symonds had shown enough in his rehabilitation programme to be considered solely on fitness and form. Furthermore, his selection in the squad increases his chances of being involved in the limited-overs matches against Pakistan starting later this month.
Symonds who uses the IGNITE range (New 2009) will be in South Africa next week to prepare for the IPL with the Deccan Chargers and may even be back in Australian colours by the end of the month if some of the senior players take a break for the Pakistan engagements in the UAE.
GRAY-NICOLLS would also like to extend its congratulations to its following cricketers who have also been named in the Twenty20 squad.
Moises Henriques- VIPER
David Hussey- NITRO
Shaun Marsh- NITRO
David Warner- IGNITE (New 2009)
Cameron White- XIPHOS (New 2009)
Australia squad: Nathan Bracken, Michael Clarke, Callum Ferguson, Brett Geeves, Brad Haddin, Ryan Harris, Shane Harwood, Nathan Hauritz, Aaron Heal, Moises Henriques, Ben Hilfenhaus, Brad Hodge, James Hopes, David Hussey, Michael Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Jason Krejza, Ben Laughlin, Brett Lee, Graham Manou, Shaun Marsh, Ricky Ponting, Rob Quiney, Peter Siddle, Andrew Symonds, Shaun Tait, Adam Voges, David Warner, Shane Watson, Cameron White.
Thu 9 April 2009
GRAY-NICOLLS cricketers Andrew Symonds (IGNITE), Shaun Marsh (NITRO) and David Hussey (NITRO) have all been named in Australia's 14-man squad for the limited overs series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates starting on April 22.
Symonds and Marsh both return following a tumultuous summer that included Symonds undergoing knee surgery and Marsh resting a torn hamstring.
Symonds said he was grateful for the chance to play for Australia again. "That's not something I've ever taken for granted so it's going to be pretty rewarding to be a part of the side considering I've worked hard to get back,"
Chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch said that it was up to the Queenslander to "seize this opportunity" during the series that includes five one-day matches and one Twenty20 fixture.
Australia’s 14-man squad:
Michael Clarke (captain), Brad Haddin (vice-captain), Nathan Bracken, Callum Ferguson, Brett Geeves, Nathan Hauritz, Ben Hilfenhaus, James Hopes, David Hussey, Ben Laughlin, Brett Lee, Shaun Marsh, Andrew Symonds, Shane Watson

GRAY-NICOLLS athletes David Hussey (NITRO), Andrew McDonald (IGNITE), Shaun Marsh (EVO), Marcus North (EVO), Andrew Symonds (IGNITE) and Cameron White (XIPHOS) were awarded Cricket Australia contracts yesterday.
The squad includes players for Test, One-Day and Twenty20 internationals and comes a week before Australia announce their squad for the Ashes Test series.
State coach Greg Shipperd said it was a great result for Victorian cricket. "It's wonderful to see Andrew McDonald, in particular, get rewarded for his efforts against South Africa," Shipperd said. "In his four Tests he's played in three wins and given Australia good service with bat and ball.
All-rounder Andrew Symonds was said to be relieved when told he will remain a Cricket Australia contracted player for the next 12 months..

We are pleased to announce that Australian and Victorian batsman David Hussey has joined GRAY-NICOLLS. Hussey will use the NITRO range against South Africa in the first of five one day matches starting on 16th of January 2009.
This is a very good signing as Hussey has made significant in-roads into the Australian T20 and ODI line-ups. He continues to amass runs in first class cricket and with his explosive batting style he is exciting to watch.
Hussey has playing contracts with Cricket Australia, Cricket Victoria and the Kolkata knight Riders in the IPL.
Tue 15 July 2008
Australia completed a series whitewash over the West Indies with a comprehensive 169-run victory in the fifth one-day international in Basseterre on Sunday.
Ronchi staked his claim to be Adam Gilchrist's long-term successor with a whirlwind knock which made the recently-retired wicketkeeper-batsman look positively pedestrian.
He struck six sixes on his way to 64 off just 28 balls - his maiden ODI 50 - while David Hussey slammed four maximums in his 52 off 21.
Thu 21 August 2008
England’s star batsman Alastair Cook has signed a long-term extension to his contract with GRAY-NICOLLS.
Alastair commented ‘I am very happy to continue my relationship with GRAY-NICOLLS having used the brand since I started playing the game. Having the right equipment and working closely with their master bat-makers at Robertsbridge to make sure my bats are just right is very important to me. I am now looking forward to working with them on a number of new product ideas in other areas.’
Sales and Marketing Director at GRAY-NICOLLS, Richard Gray, said: ‘We are delighted that Alastair has decided to remain with the brand and we wish him every success over the coming months in the lead- up to the Ashes next summer. We are working closely with Alastair on some major new product developments and we look forward to announcing the first of a number of these in the near future’.
GRAY-NICOLLS is leading the way in world cricket with More Test centuries scored with GRAY-NICOLLS than any other brand. GRAY-NICOLLS bats passed the landmark eighteen times during the last 12 months.
GRAY- NICOLLS is also the choice of more players than any other brand. In county cricket, nearly twice as many players chose Gray-Nicolls than the nearest competitor. GRAY-NICOLLS Internationals include leading players such as: Shiv Chanderpaul; JP Duminy; Andrew Strauss, Matthew Hayden, Phil Jaques; Dimitri Mascarenhas; Jacob Oram; Ramnaresh Sarwan; Graeme Swann; Andrew Symonds, Daniel Vettori and Mohammed Yousuf
Thu 23 October 2008
Shaun Marsh has been called up to replace the injured Phil Jaques for Australia's tour of India.
Jaques was ruled out of Australia's tour of India with a long-standing back injury prior to their second Test at Mohali. Jaques joined Bryce McGain as the second Australian to depart the tour early, but his absence gives Marsh - a highly rated batsman and the son of Australia's former opener and national selector, Geoff - another opportunity at the highest level. Marsh played eight one-dayers during Australia's tour of West Indies in June this year, though has yet to make his Test debut.
Marsh, significantly, has experience of Indian conditions; he played for Kings XI Punjab in the IPL earlier this year and ended the tournament as the highest runscorer.
"Shaun has been selected having opened the batting for Australia in the one-day international arena and shown great potential," Andrew Hilditch, the chairman of selectors, said. "He has recently moved to opening the batting in all three forms of the game in interstate competition and played very well in Western Australia's run chase and victory at the WACA against New South Wales.
"As a replacement batsman on the tour, should the opportunity arise, we are confident that Shaun could fill any role in the batting order. We have also taken the opportunity to enhance Shaun's international experience as we consider him to be one of the promising young batsmen in Australia capable of having a significant impact in Australian cricket in the future."
The third Test gets underway on October 29 in Delhi. India lead the series 1-0 with two to play.

Andrew Symonds' exile from the national team is over after he was named in the Australian side to take on an All-Stars XI in a Twenty20 match in Brisbane on Friday. Symonds will also be back in the frame for the upcoming home Test series against New Zealand having completed the welfare process prescribed for him. The Australian Test Squad to compete against New Zealand is expected to be announced within the next week.
This opportunity will mean that Andrew Symonds will unleash the Predator Max cricket bat for the first time. Symonds will continue to use the Viper in the Test and ODI formats.
It is also pleasing to see Matthew Hayden return to limited overs cricket, joining Shaun Marsh for the first time at the top-of-the-order. Cameron White continues to hold his spot in the Australian team for all forms of the game.
Australia - Matthew Hayden, Shaun Marsh, Michael Clarke (capt), Michael Hussey, David Hussey, Andrew Symonds, Shane Watson, Cameron White, Brad Haddin (wk), Brett Geeves, Peter Siddle, Shaun Tait.
ACA All-Stars XI - Adam Gilchrist (capt, wk), Justin Langer, Brad Hodge, Simon Katich, Rob Quiney, Michael Dighton, Dan Marsh, Ashley Noffke, Ryan Harris, Steve Magoffin, Brendan Drew, Dan Cullen.

With a Man-of-the-Match performance David Warner (NSW) punched out 65 runs (four sixes and seven fours) against the West End Redbacks in Adelaide on the 6th of January 2009. In the third over Warner hit Shaun Tait onto the roof of the George Giffen Stand, proving that the Dual T20 bat has plenty of guts.
Warner swapped the Dual T20 halfway into his innings as he felt that it needed further knocking-in, but said that he was very happy with the bat.
GRAY-NICOLLS uses a unique method of pressing the front and back of the Dual T20 at 5,500 lbs of pressure per square inch, removing the need to carve away willow from the back of the bat. Pressing the willow ensures strong rebound and no splitting, cracks or fractures from ball impact.
To prevent Yorker damage commonly caused by Twenty20 bowlers, GRAY-NICOLLS raised the profile in the toe of the bat.
The Dual T20 has a weight range of 2.8 to 2.10 lbs and boasts a mammoth ‘phantom-like' middle.
The cricket bat conforms to the Laws of Cricket (Law 6) as set by rule makers Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and will be in retail stores from February 2009.
Wed 25 June 2008
Shaun Marsh has broken into the international ODI scene with a Man of the Match performance of 81 runs (97 balls) against the West Indies overnight, which included seven 4's and one 6. Not only did Marsh win match honours he notched up the second-highest score by an Australian on debut in a one-day international. He fell 13 short of the highest debut ODI score by an Australian, set by another potential one-day opener, Phil Jaques. Both Marsh and Jaques are using the GRAY-NICOLLS NITRO range.
The Australian cricket team also used GRAY-NICOLLS pink batting grips to recognise the recent passing of Jane McGrath.
When Matthew Hayden makes his return to Test and ODI cricket it is likely that GRAY-NICOLLS will have the two opening batsmen for both forms, as well as the very marketable Andrew Symonds in the middle order and a promising Twenty20 opening batsman / wicket-keeper Luke Ronchi, who scored the most runs in the recent Twenty20 against the West Indies.
Matthew Hayden - FUSION 2
Andrew Symonds - VIPER (ODI and Tests), PREDATOR MAX (T20)
Shaun Marsh - NITRO
Phil Jaques - NITRO
Luke Ronchi - LEGEND wicket keeping gloves, NITRO wicket keeping pads and a PREDATOR MAX bat
Tue 24 June 2008
GRAY-NICOLLS cricketers Shaun Marsh (25 yo) and Luke Ronchi (27 yo) opened the batting in Australia's T20 v West Indies last weekend. The duo made an opening partnership of 57, with Shaun finishing on 29 (22 balls) and Luke on 36 (22 balls).
Luke Ronchi uses a PREDATOR MAX bat and Shaun Marsh uses a NITRO bat.
Cameron White also played in this match and scored an unbeaten 10 (6 balls) with the new COUNTY Lightning range.
Tue 24 June 2008
While our stars - Matthew Hayden and Andrew Symonds - will not play in Australia's Twenty20 match against West Indies tomorrow due to injury, there is great news that GRAY-NICOLLS will be represented by debutants Shaun Marsh and Luke Ronchi.
Shaun Marsh will join Test Openers Phil Jaques (Australia) and Alistair Cook (England) and New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori in using the NITRO range. Wicket-keeper / big-hitting batsman Luke Ronchi, who hit the second faster-ever One Day century in state cricket last season, will use PREDATOR MAX batting equipment, NITRO wicket-keeping pads and as a once-off LEGEND wicket-keeping gloves. After the West Indies tour Ronchi will use NITRO wicket-keeping gloves.
Matthew Hayden is using FUSION 2 and Andrew Symonds is using VIPER in Test and ODI competition; and PREDATOR MAX in Twenty20 competition.
Thu 12 June 2008
Western Australian Shaun Marsh has recently turned heads with his IPL success, which included high honours - highest runs scorer and batsman of the tournament.
Marsh made his first class debut against South Australia in 2001 and now, at 24, he is on the brink of an Australian debut against the West Indies this month.
Son of former Australian opening batsman, Geoff Marsh, the younger Marsh is highly regarded and ahs the potential to build a fantastic career for Australia. Like his father, Shaun is an opening batsman and has played all this cricket with only one brand - GRAY-NICOLLS.
Marsh will begin using the 2008 NITRO range (bat, pads and legguards) in the West Indies, which will shortly be available in-store.
Tue 10 June 2008
GRAY-NICOLLS would like to congratulate two of its finest athletes in receiving the dual Player of the Series Award from the England v New Zealand three Test series - New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori and England opening batsman Andrew Strauss.
Comments from cricinfo.com:
Daniel Vettori
Midway through Old Trafford, Vettori was ruling the roost. He'd claimed his second consecutive five-wicket haul, helping New Zealand earn a lead of 179. Then it all fell apart and he will always be haunted by the events of Manchester. However, the contest between him and Panesar was enthralling and Vettori's 5 for 69 at Lord's, in seam-bowling conditions, was one the best performances by a visiting spinner at headquarters.
Andrew Strauss
It's hard to believe the Strauss we've just witnessed is the same Strauss who was battling for his Test career only three months ago in New Zealand. The fretfulness that characterised his game on that trip has been buried beneath the Napier outfield, and instead he is back to his compact, thoughtful and fluster-free best. During his Old Trafford masterclass, he forced New Zealand to feed him runs on the leg-side by declining any temptation outside off - an approach that echoed his remarkable debut season in 2004 and demonstrated a renewed self-assurance. He suffered a slight relapse at Trent Bridge, where he chased a wide half-volley after lunch to trigger England's first-innings collapse, but his Player of the Series accolade was richly justified.

Three GRAY-NICOLLS cricketing superstars have recently announced their retirement.
Darren Lehmann
Lehmann figured in 27 Tests and 117 one-day internationals for Australia, he played 146 matches for SA and Victoria and made 13,468 runs at 54.52 to finish his career as the most prolific batsman in Sheffield Shield/Pura Cup history.
Brad Hogg
In a 14 year first class career, Brad represented Australia in 7 Test matches and 121 ODIs. Brad was a crucial member of Australia's triumphant one-day team with 21 wickets at 15.8 at the 2007 Cricket World Cup. He also has had a distinguished career with Western Australia.
Matthew Elliot
Having played 21 Tests for Australia between 1996 and 2004, and forging a sensational domestic career with Victoria before spending his final three seasons with the SA Redbacks. Also a skilful limited-overs opener - he won the domestic one day player of the year award in 2006-07.
We wish these three players the very best in their future endeavors.

Daniel Vettori (NZ) has introduced the NEW GRAY-NICOLLS NITRO bat and range.
Boasting a well-balanced pick up and contoured shape, the NITRO bat provides Vettori with the perfect balance to dominate the game with tactical shots.
"It is a great looking range that combines a new and improved technology with a GRAY-NICOLLS feel that is so popular with everyone in cricket. I love the new range and know that all cricket fans out there will too!" - Vettori.

Matthew Hayden will swing his bat on Boxing Day with more PINK than ever before
Australian opening batsman Matthew Hayden, in association with bat sponsor GRAY-NICOLLS, will endorse pink gloves and pink bat stickers to continue to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research in Australia during the Boxing Day Test against India at the MCG.
The bats that Matthew Hayden will release on Boxing Day are now available at good cricket retailers with a $50.00 donation to breast cancer research from the sale of each bat.
Hayden has been on the front foot in support of breast cancer research since the last Ashes series and is amazed with the progress that the GRAY-NICOLLS-led campaign has made.
"We have achieved great things so far in raising funds and awareness for breast cancer. I hope that by wearing pink gloves and using a new look pink bat we can go another step forward."
"Nothing will be bigger than the Boxing Day Test in front of more than 100,000 people so I am very much looking forward to doing what I can for a great cause" said Hayden.
GRAY-NICOLLS has raised well over $60,000, of which $30,000 has come from pink grip sales alone ($1.00 from each grip sold is donated), for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and will continue its efforts in 2008.

Australia's new Test opener Phil Jaques made his maiden Test century today against Sri Lanka. Under the guidance of his opening partner and fellow GRAY-NICOLLS cricketer Matthew Hayden, Jaques built a memorable first Test century after a nervy start.
Jaques was at the realm with Hayden in his last two Test appearances in Melbourne in 2005 and Bangladesh in 2006.
GRAY-NICOLLS is well represented in Australia's Test side with Phil Jaques, Matthew Hayden and Andrew Symonds.
